Jim Fish and Mikkel Conradi formed a two man wrecking crew to get all those dogbones strewn about the Lake Elizabeth map bifurcated by the construction of the Warm Springs BART line.

Original announcement

What's the Deal?

We won't let the construction of BART's Warm Springs extension tearing up the northwest part of the park stop our fun!

There's plenty of landscaped (and some wild) urban park left to enjoy some fun and challenging nav courses for all levels of experience.

The "Point to Point" course is good for those starting out: 8 checkpoints, 2.5 km.

Those seeking an interesting route choice challenge can try the Dogbones course. You can take the checkpoints in any order, but you have to take them a pair at a time; pairs are shown by connection lines on the map. (Hence, "dogbones.")

Get all Dogbones: 16 checkpoints (8 pairs,) shortest point-to-point distance I could calculate is 7.1 km, minimal climb.
Get any five Dogbones: 10 checkpoints (5 pairs,) shortest point-to-point distance I could calculate is 4.8 km, minimal climb.

The Details:

  • Cost is $5 per person.
  • Registration and starts open at 6:00, mass start option is 6:45, courses close 8:00, or earlier, if people are finished.
  • Gear: shorts and regular running shoes are fine; you may decide to cross a weedy field or two, though.
  • Checkpoints are colored pin flags.
  • Map from BAOC is 1:10000 scale and not very hilly.
  • Social option afterwards.
